A Marriage of Art and Technology

One of my favorite artists, David Hockney, is now creating his vibrant art on his iPad.   I have been drawn to his bright paintings utilizing bold colors and uncomplicated visuals since the late 90's when I was going to Interior Design school.  There I figured out that what I really appreciate is clean design.

A lot of "stuff", or too much "glitz", or trying too hard, pretty much turns me off - whether you're talking about personalities, or art, or personal adornments, or houses, or cars.  I prefer simple; so one can experience and appreciate the beauty and purity and realness of what is in front of them. I guess that is why Hockney's style appeals to me.  He is straightforward in how he communicates visually and artistically.  His art speaks to what he loves or finds beautiful regardless if it is socially acceptable or expected.  His art is simple; he paints the vase of flowers next to his bed, or the window with the morning sun creeping through his blinds.

And now he's creating beautiful works of art on his iPad (or iPhone)...in a matter of a hours! How cool is that?  He draws directly on the screen with his fingers and sometimes wipes them on his pants, forgetting he's not using actual paint. I love that!

What he chooses to draw on his iPad and how he decided to exhibit these pieces of "not-for-sale" art at a French Gallery is colorfully described by him in this video:

Here he is - all cute and British.  And using technology at age 74 to explore new frontiers in his art expressions!!  Go David!
